Vatican Gardens are a place of rest and meditation of the Roman Pontiff since 1279. Today’s gardens are spread over nearly 23 hectares (57 acres) on the Vatican Hill and are about two thirds of the surface of Vatican City. The horticultural styles are various: the elegant Italian Renaissance estate, the flowery French park, the naturalistic English landscape. This enchanted and silent place contains fortifications, buildings and monuments in an atmosphere of times gone by.
The gardens can be visited with a tour group lasting two hours or an approved electrical bus. Space is limited, so it is best to reserve and pay for tickets as early as you can. With the same ticket it is possible to see the Vatican Museums. More info on www.museivaticani.va
